Between December 1 and 3, the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans hosted the International WorkBoat Conference. Attendees and exhibitors came from various industries and included marine surveyors, engineers, boatbuilding professionals and others. One of the many exhibitors was Fisk Marine Insurance International LLC, which appeared at Booth #930. Members of our staff on-hand included Employee Benefits Specialist Will Sigl.

As a company already based in New Orleans, it was easy for us to make it to this event and showcase our maritime insurance services. Activities included educational sessions and speeches from former NFL champion Joe Theismann and Dr. Kent Moors.

The Conference dedicated an entire day to workforce-related issues

This year, the Conference dedicated an entire day to workforce-related issues, including a Maritime Workforce Career Fair with 30 participating companies attending. Job seekers were encouraged to participate and learn more about employment opportunities, with attendants available to discuss possibilities as necessary.

Thursday also featured events focusing on specific workforce issues, such as the presence of both Millennials and military veterans in the marine workforce. The Conference's website states that Louisiana alone accounts for 54,000 maritime jobs, or around one fifth of the state's entire employed population. A Transportation Institute study the source referenced also claims that the state is the top employer for maritime jobs per capita in the country, generating more than $11 billion.

This event is one of Fisk Marine Insurance's many conference and show appearances at the end of the year. We are planning more events for 2016, especially in February, so be sure to return to this blog often for details.
